Companies in the south west can take advantage of two information events being held in December to help them understand the opportunities associated with the new nuclear build at Hinkley, Somerset.


EDF Energy has selected Hampshire-based Dean & Dyball Civil Engineering to build a temporary sea jetty at the site of its proposed new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point in Somerset. The £30m jetty will be built subject to a final decision from EDF to proceed with the new nuclear project and the contract marks another step towards readiness for work to begin.


More than 1,000 Somerset businesses have now registered on a dedicated website as potential suppliers to the multi-billion pound power station project planned at Hinkley Point.


Yeovil-based aerospace company Agusta Westland has secured £46 million from the Regional Growth Fund, a figure that is likely to be matched by the company.

Cabinet Member for Economic Development at Somerset County Council, and Somerset 3D Board Member, Councillor David Hall said: “This is tremendous news for Somerset, and an exciting time for the staff at Agusta Westland.

“As a council we are working hard to promote Somerset as an attractive place for businesses to invest, develop and flourish; thereby stimulating our local economy.


A number of recent successes in the fashion industry are giving Somerset its very own fashion make-over. Mulberry’s luxury leather goods, urban menswear designer Jenny Schwarz, Duchess of Cambridge favourite Alice Temperly, Duo shoes and boots, and world-renowned shoe makers Clarks, are all making news for the county and highlighting its credentials as a hub for fashion and creative excellence.


Somerset’s inward investment organisation, Somerset 3D, is highlighting its impressive food and drink credentials in a new targeted marketing campaign.


Internationally renowned wedding dress designer, Sassi Holford, has been announced as the latest well-known personality pledging support for inward investment organisation, Somerset 3D.


Iconic fashion brand Mulberry was established in 1971. They are now internationally renowned for their quintessentially English style, personality and quality and continue to operate their thriving business from the heart of rural Somerset. .

The luxury leather goods retailer was recently announced as the latest creative industries brand ambassador for Somerset 3D's So Well Connected campaign, which launched on February 14th in Taunton.


Innovation and collaboration were the hot topics at this year’s Somerset in Business Conference, which took place on 17 May at the Westland’s Conference & Leisure Centre in Yeovil.
