Posted: 29/6/12

Internationally renowned wedding dress designer, Sassi Holford, has been announced as the latest well-known personality pledging support for inward investment organisation, Somerset 3D.

Sassi Holford joins a host of famous Somerset ambassadors supporting the inward investment organisation, including the BBC’s face of classical music Charles Hazlewood, businesswoman Deborah Meaden and Mulberry founder Roger Saul, in backing Somerset 3D’s 'So Well Connected' marketing campaign, which recently launched.

One of only a handful of bridal designers whose dresses are still made exclusively in the UK, Sassi Holford’s gowns are produced to the highest standards in her Taunton based studios by a first class team of talented cutters, seamstresses and hand beaders.

Sassi says of her appointment as an Somerset 3D Ambassador, “Above all else, designing and making wedding gowns has to be a passion, and in Somerset I have found that passion. I want to do all that I can to promote Somerset as a great place for other creative businesses to thrive.”

Having recently celebrated thirty years of bridal design, Sassi was famously commissioned by Autumn Kelly to design the wedding gown for her marriage to Princess Anne’s son, Peter Phillips. Sassi’s iconic dress, Thea, is being featured on Somerset 3D’s latest promotional campaign, marking the start of her role as an Ambassador for the organisation.

Rupert Cox, Chief Executive of Somerset 3D, comments, “We are delighted to welcome Sassi Holford as an Ambassador for Somerset 3D. It’s great for us to have yet another of Somerset’s leading creative talents and international, iconic brands on board, helping to promote Somerset as a fantastic, inspiring place to do business.

“Somerset 3D’s Ambassadors are an invaluable resource for the county, spreading the word far and wide about how great it is to do business here. Somerset’s creative heritage and culture is second to none and we are always delighted to show new businesses what we have to offer in Somerset and support them in their creation or relocation.”

Somerset based luxury leather goods brand, Mulberry, has also recently pledged its support for Somerset 3D and features in a new video case study on Somerset 3D’s website https://www.somerset3d.co.uk/video-case-studies.

Mulberry has grown significantly over the past six years, more than doubling employee numbers in its Shepton Mallet based factory, which has led to a new factory site that is currently under construction near Bridgwater.

Ian Scott, Supply Director at Mulberry says, "Somerset has a very strong tradition in the leather industry and Mulberry has benefitted from the experience of staff in the area, as well as encouraging the traditional skills to flourish through investment in apprenticeships. The county is very well connected to the rest of the UK and international markets and this has enabled us to significantly grow the business in the last six years. I would certainly encourage other businesses to look at Somerset as a place to do business or to set up for themselves. For us it’s been a fantastic county."
