Somerset 3D reveals new marketing campaign

Posted: 22/2/12

Inward investment organisation Somerset 3D unveiled its new marketing campaign and branding, entitled ‘So Well Connected’, to over 80 Somerset business people at a breakfast launch event held at Taunton Rugby Club on Tuesday 14 February.

The new campaign and So Well Connected strapline highlight the top-class connections that Somerset has for new, expanding and relocating businesses, including high speed broadband connectivity, great transport infrastructure, friendly and dynamic business networks and an enviable quality of life.

The key business sectors identified by Somerset 3D as industries for investment will be individually targeted through a series of themed posters and other marketing collateral. The themes include ‘Engineered in Somerset’ targeting the advanced engineering sector, ‘Home-grown in Somerset’ for the food and drink industry and ‘Born and bred in Somerset’ to highlight entrepreneurialism and general opportunity through famous faces and Somerset 3D Ambassadors including Deborah Meaden, Sarah Parish and Michael Eavis.

The campaign has been developed by Somerset-based Impact Design and Marketing, whose director, Gary Bee, explained, “We have pulled together a cohesive marketing identity for Somerset 3D. We have evolved the Somerset 3D brand, introducing a more dynamic vision, with more colour and more drama, so it is reflective of the team of people behind the organisation.

“The marketing campaign is based on how well connected the county of Somerset is. With great road, rail and air links; the forthcoming super-fast broadband; the business support networks that exist here; the world-class brands we have in Somerset like Thatcher’s, Mulberry, Yeo Valley and Numatic; as well as getting Somerset celebrities such as Deborah Meaden, Sarah Parish and Michael Eavis on board – all famous personalities who will attract attention to Somerset for all the right reasons.”

Speaking at the launch event, Somerset 3D Chief Executive Rupert Cox said, “Somerset is a great place to do business. The average commute time for a Somerset resident is only 12 minutes, far less than the average 55 minute commute in the South East. Our railway line is fantastic; we can be in London in less than two hours. We have three very close airports, which can take us to over 200 destinations; we take that for granted too. The connections we have within business are vital for Somerset, so it is important that we use the brands and celebrities already mentioned to promote the fact that you can do big business in Somerset, as well as having a great lifestyle here.”

A recent multi-million pound government investment in Somerset’s superfast broadband connection is helping Somerset businesses to be more competitive than ever. Michael Dunn, BT Regional Manager for the South West and a guest speaker at the launch event, said, “Taunton and Bridgwater will be the next two Somerset towns to enjoy the roll-out of the super fast broadband connectivity across the next couple of months. We are spending £2.5billion on introducing superfast broadband to the UK. We are making good progress – we have connected more than seven million properties and we are likely to hit ten million by the summer.”

Chair of Somerset 3D, Cllr Anne Fraser, added, “We are constantly seeking innovative ways to promote Somerset as a county that is open for business and that is ready and willing to assist businesses in finding suitable locations and to take advantage of everything this beautiful county has to offer. Somerset is the happening place!”

Somerset 3D handled 76 promising investment enquiries between January and December 2011, with interest coming from businesses based both in the UK and overseas. A total of 14 of these companies have already invested in Somerset, with around 300 projected jobs being created once their investments are complete.
