Somerset 3D advert proves a success

The first phase of an advertising campaign that showcases Somerset and raises awareness of the county as a great place to do business has proved a big success, both on-screen and online. Targeting inward investors from London and the South East, the ‘Seize the Opportunity’ advert was seen almost 400,000 times in just five weeks via catch-up TV channels, with more than 1,600 additional views via YouTube.

Commissioned by Somerset 3D and launched at the end of October 2014, the advert was shown on ITV Player and 4 on Demand within London and the South East before popular dramas including Downton Abbey, Grantchester and Doc Martin, as well as home related TV shows such as Grand Designs and Location, Location, Location.

It also became a popular topic of conversation on the Twitter social media platform, resulting in over 1,000 new Twitter followers for Somerset 3D – more than a third of which were based within the M25 catchment area. In addition, there were more than 650 uses of the campaign hashtag, #seizetheopportunity, demonstrating strong interest and support for the campaign.

The advert has received much attention in Somerset and the South West, with widespread media coverage at the start of the campaign and supportive feedback from local business people. For instance, Deborah Waddell, Director at CBI South West, commented, “Step aside John Lewis and Marks & Spencer, the real contender for best advert of 2015 must surely go to Somerset 3D! Challenging, thought provoking and above all it makes you want the product…a slice of the vibrant and diverse Somerset pie.”

The advert challenges the stereotype of country living and promotes the county’s impressive business credentials, highlighting some of the dynamic businesses and business people that are based in Somerset. It aims to attract inward investors from London and the South East to consider moving all or part of their business to Somerset.

The second phase of the campaign runs throughout January 2015 on ITV Player and is expected to be viewed more than 270,000 times over this period. It will be shown prior to popular shows such as Broadchurch, Mr Selfridge, Midsomer Murders and the Jonathan Ross Show.
