Fine food inward investor creates five new jobs in Somerset

Five new jobs have been created within as many months at a fine food company that moved to Somerset earlier this year, and which is already going from strength to strength in its new home.

The two full-time and three part-time positions have doubled the number of employees at Filbert’s Fine Foods, which moved to West Pennard near Glastonbury at the end of April 2013 having outgrown its previous premises in Dorset. All three part-time positions were filled by local mums thanks to the support of West Pennard Primary School.

Filbert’s Fine Foods manufactures premium, all natural fine food snacks and antipasti delicacies and its recently expanded team is currently working on Christmas orders for major retailers including Harrods and Booths.

Managing Director Mark Taylor explained that Somerset was their first choice when looking to move the business thanks to its excellent transport connections. He approached inward investment organisation Somerset 3D, who provided valuable assistance with the relocation.

Taylor says, “We used Somerset 3D to help us to look for farms and rural locations, and they were very helpful, coming up with interesting ways to use their networks to find out when places were becoming vacant. Somerset 3D’s Investment Manager, Gerard Tucker, put us in contact with the local network and estate agents, and got us to look at Somerset in more detail, so Somerset 3D certainly played a valuable part in helping us move here.”

The relocation has been good for the business, which is enjoying strong growth in its new home already. “We’ve improved our efficiency straight away here, which has given us immediate cost savings,” says Taylor. “Whilst there is a larger overhead, our business is already about 30% up on last year, which will probably finish up being more like 45% by the end of the year.”

In addition, Filbert’s Fine Foods has recently found out that it has been shortlisted in the New to Somerset category in the Somerset Business Awards.
