Thatchers Strikes Gold ‘Down Under’

The two Somerset 3D branded lorries that form part of the Framptons fleet have been spreading the word about Somerset as a great place to do business for almost a year. While Framptons goes about Thatchers cider bottleits daily business, images of Somerset and great Somerset brands are on show up and down the UK’s motorways. Between them, the two trailers have already covered over 150,000 miles – the equivalent of travelling to and from Australia eight times!

Now one of the iconic Somerset products featured on the Somerset 3D branding that covers the trailers really is taking one of its most popular brands ‘Down Under’.

Thatchers is one of the UK’s best-known cider brands and has been producing cider since 1904. Now its Thatchers Gold Cider, radiantly featured on the Somerset 3D branded lorries, will soon be available on draught in Australia for the first time.

Thatchers has signed a contract with Australian brewery Coopers that will see Gold – the UK’s second most popular draught cider – on the bar alongside Coopers’ range of ales and lagers across Australia. It will also be available in packaged format for both the on and off trade through Coopers’ distribution company Premium Beverages.

Martin Thatcher, Managing Director of Thatchers Cider says, “There are so many synergies between ourselves and Coopers, this has always been a partnership just waiting to happen. Our two companies both go back over generations, there is a cultural fit between us with similar values of family heritage, and we are both firmly committed to care for our customers and crafting the highest quality and best tasting drinks.”

Dr Tim Cooper, Managing Director of Coopers, says, “We expect Thatchers Gold will have a major impact on the draught cider market in Australia. It is highly regarded as one of the world’s best ciders and is a neat fit within our portfolio of quality beers. Thatchers is a fourth generation family business that produces premium quality products. It has been growing rapidly in the past 20 years and the fit seemed right. We are extremely excited about the possibilities.”

The cider market is currently one of the fastest growing sectors of the Australian drinks industry and has also seen a huge revival in popularity in the UK in recent years. With Somerset as its natural home, it’s another big success story for the county.
