Low Carbon South West boosts region’s green credentials, says Somerset 3D

New environmental trade association, Low Carbon South West, is a great boost to the region’s environmental technology credentials, according to Somerset 3D Chief Executive, Rupert Cox.

The group, a merger between Bristol Environmental Technologies and Services (BETS) and the environmental activities of the University of Bath’s Innovation Centre, is the largest trade body of its type and will promote the growing ‘green’ industry in the South West.

Somerset is still one of the most prominent counties in the country for new business start-ups, despite the economic difficulties of recent years, and continues to be one of the best locations from which entrepreneurs can maximise their business potential.

New figures from NatWest and RBS have highlighted the South West as the region with the biggest increase in start-up businesses, seeing a 12 per cent growth in the year to the end of June 2010, with the business services sector seeing the greatest increase, up 36 per cent.

Inward investment body Somerset 3D has handled 50 serious enquiries from entrepreneurs wanting to relocate to Somerset – with half coming in the last few months.
Of the 50 business people, 10 have already invested in Somerset or have made the commitment to relocate to the county.
