Probiotics International Ltd (Protexin), of ilminster, who manufacturer healthcare products for Human, Veterinary, Equine and Agricultural markets, has been awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for a second time, in recognition of the company’s outstanding achievement in the International Trade category.

The Queen’s Award for Enterprise is the highest business accolade a UK company can receive and is recognised globally. Protexin has been a leading manufacturer of innovative researched based products for the Human, Veterinary, Equine and Agricultural healthcare markets for over 25 years. Their products are well recognised in each of the four sectors it operates in as being of the highest quality and backed by the most robust scientific research.

Jonathan Sowler, Commercial Director, Protexin, comments,

“The Queen’s Award for Enterprise is a global stamp of approval and is well known across the world. To be recognised again that we have excelled in an industry that we are passionate about and dedicated to is fantastic.

“We have built strong international relationships across the globe with our trusted partners who are committed to educating their markets about our products and appreciate our high quality manufacturing standards (MHRA, cGMP) as well as our commitment to robust scientific research. They are a huge part of this success.”

Since Protexin won the award for the first time in 2011 it has demonstrated again its impressive and substantial commercial growth over the past five years. During this time export sales have tripled and International Trade accounts for 60% of Protexin’s business across over 80 countries and this is why the judges chose to award this prestigious accolade for a second time.

Toby Lewis, Managing Director, Protexin, comments,

“Winning in 2011 was an honour for the company. To be recognised for a second time in 2016 really is exceptional. It is testimony to the hard work of everyone within the company over the past 5 years who have helped to ensure our business continues to thrive.”

“Protexin will not be resting on its laurels; already in 2016 we have achieved a 2* rating from Best Companies meaning we are an ‘outstanding’ company to work for and now we have achieved our Second Queen’s Award, and it is only still only April! Business continues to grow in all markets at home and aboard and we will continue to work hard on bringing exciting new products to the markets we operate in as well as continuously demonstrating our commitment to scientific research. There are tremendous plans ahead for Protexin with more exciting news to come.”

The Somerset based company now has over 100 employees, double the number since it won its first Queen's Award 5 years ago and has recently gained a 2* accreditation from Best Companies to show it is an 'outstanding' employer.

Hayley Milne recently relocated from Luton to the picturesque village of Ilminster to join the company as UK Brand Manager.

She said: "It's a daunting task to relocate for a job role, but once I visited Somerset and the company itself and saw what an exceptional local business this was, any concerns about relocation were thrown out of the window."

"Somerset is a wonderful place to live and Protexin is a wonderful place to work."

Representatives of Protexin have been invited to attend Her ajesty The Queen’s Reception at Buckingham Palace on Thursday 14th July to celebrate this prestigious award.
